    Apprenticeship and Internship Program of the Department of Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business

    Over the last years, the Department of Statistics has developed a comprehensive apprenticeship and internship program, concerning all levels of Higher Education. In Level 6 (Bachelor’s Degree), it participates in the internship scheme, while in Level 7 (Master’s Degree) it has developed a well-established collaboration scheme with companies – IQVIA, ELVAL, FSF-Hellas, Fantasy Sports interactive and Cube-rm to name a few – specializing in the fields of Data Science, Statistics, Data Analytics and Biostatistics, so that collaborative research is carried out, whilst it also collaborates with EY and Imed (in cases of Theses realizations).

    In summary, there exist the following apprenticeship and internship programs:

    • Undergraduate studies

    • Internship (duration: 3-6 months) through, either a state-funded program, or a self-funded program – for more information, please refer to https://www.aueb.gr/internship.

    • Postgraduate studies (Master’s Degree)

    • Full Internship and Thesis (duration: 6-12 months)
    • Joint Thesis (no employment relationship)
    • Independent Internship (as determined by the company in question)

    •  Doctoral studies

    • Part-time Internship for Senior PhD Candidates (duration: 6-24 months)

    Undergraduate Studies: Internship

    Since its foundation in 1989, the Department of Statistics has established the "Internship Program", as part of its undergraduate curriculum.

    The "STUDENTS’ INTERNSHIP OF THE ATHENS UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS" Program is implemented through the O.P. "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning" and the O.P. "Competitiveness Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2014 – 2020" and is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund - ESF), as well as, by National Resources.

    Alternatively, in cases of no NSRF funds, for a certain period of time, those interested might participate in the private self-financed program "INTERNSHIP OF AUEB STUDENTS 2016-2020". In this program, financing is entirely covered by the Company, which undertakes the obligation of paying the amount associated with the compensation and insurance against students’ accident, to a bank account held by the Research Center (RC) of AUEB, succeeding the completion of the Internship.

    The Central Internship Office of the Department of Statistics accepts students, Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

    Postgraduate Studies (Master’s Degree)

    Postgraduate Studies (Master’s Degree): Full Internship and Thesis

    • Duration: 6-12 months.
    • The company and the Director of the Master’s Degree determine the topic of the Thesis that is of interest to both parties.
    • Interviews take place in February, once the winter semester exams have occurred.
    • The company announces the job position to our students (through the secretariat) and they express their interest accordingly.
    • The company chooses the appropriate candidate, following its own procedures.
    • The company determines the working hours and the corresponding wage (which it fully undertakes).
    • The Student has the obligation to meet up with their academic supervisor at regular intervals. Joint meetings with the company’s representatives must also be held at less frequent intervals, in order for the Student's progress to be reviewed.

    Postgraduate Studies (Master’s Degree): Joint Thesis

    • Duration: 6-12 months.
    • The company and the Director of the Master’s Degree determine the topic of the Thesis that is of interest to both parties.
    • There is no employment relationship.
    • The Student works on the subject of the Thesis, without the obligation to work for the company.
    • The selection of the student takes place in June 2022 according to AUEB’s procedures (the company has no say in the selection of the student).
    • The Student has the obligation to meet up with their academic supervisor at regular intervals. Joint meetings with the company’s representatives must also be held at less frequent intervals, in order for the Student's progress to be reviewed.
    • Upon completion of the Thesis, the results are communicated to the Company and ways of further exploiting the results are being assessed.

    Postgraduate Studies (Master’s Degree): Independent Internship

    This type of Internship refers mainly to companies that maintain their own programs, which cannot be modified or adapted accordingly, in cases of collaboration with our Department.

    • The department assists in communicating such positions to senior graduate students and/or to recent graduates.
    • There is no direct association with the writing of the student's Thesis.

    Part-time Internship for Senior PhD Candidates

    • Duration: 6-24 months.
    • Recommended working hours: 4-5 hours per day or 2-3 days per week (full-time), so that the writing of the Doctoral Thesis is not hindered.
    • Usually concerns PhD Candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of studies.
    • Its main purpose is the application of new innovative methodologies, which have been developed by the PhD Candidates throughout their doctoral studies, in real-life scenarios.
    • May not be directly related to their doctoral research/dissertation, although this is not recommended.
    • The company is the one determining the exact working hours and corresponding wage.
