The event began with addresses by the Rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Professor Dimitrios Bourantonis, and the Chairman of the Department of Economics, Professor George Alogoskoufis. This was followed by the presentation of the work of Professor Blundell by Elias Tzavalis, Professor in the Department of Economics, and the ceremony for the conferment of the Doctorate ‘Honoris Causa’.

“Inequality and the Covid Crisis”
Professor Blundell holds the David Ricardo Chair of Political Economy at University College London, where he was appointed Professor of Economics in 1984. In 2014 he was knighted for services in Economics and Social Sciences, while in 2006 he was honored with the CBE.
He has published groundbreaking papers in leading academic journals on microeconomics and econometrics and his contributions are truly innovative. Richard Blundell is one of the top economists who combines rigorous theory with applied econometric research to come up with innovative and specific conclusions and assessments that can also guide economic policy. He has used large sets of microeconomic data to test the predictions of economic theory in areas such as consumer behavior, savings, labor supply, taxation, public finance, innovation and inequality.
